Monitoring the security gateway
Viewing system health
Prerequisites
Complete the following task before beginning this procedure:
■
The appliance must be running.
To monitor disk usage

In the SGMI, in the left pane, under Monitors, click
Overall Health
.

In the right pane, under Disk Usage, the pie chart shows the following:
■
The disk space used by system files, including configuration files
■
The disk space used by log files
■
Free disk space

To the right of the disk usage chart, the disk status is displayed if you have more than one disk
installed.
A green check mark is displayed when the disk is functioning normally.
A red check mark indicates a problem. You should view the log file for messages that describe the
nature of the problem and possible actions.

for information on obtaining and installing a
field replaceable disk.
All components for the Symantec Gateway Security 5600 Series v3.0 model 5620 are fixed
components and are not replaceable.

Monitoring appliance temperature and fan status
Sensors on the security gateway appliance report the appliance temperature and fan speed. The
reports from these sensors validate that the hardware is properly operating and alert you if a part is
failing so that you can take appropriate action.
Events are logged to the SGMI if a threshold is met.
Symantec Gateway Security 5400 Series appliances have a single fan that cools the CPU. Symantec
Gateway Security 5600 Series appliances have four fans: two cool the CPU and two cool the rest of the
board.
Prerequisites

In the SGMI, in the left pane, under Monitors, click
Overall Health
.

In the right pane, to the right of the disk usage chart, the following appliance statistics are
reported:
■
CPU temperature, in degrees Celsius and degrees Farenheit
■
Ambient temperature, in degrees Celsius and degrees Farenheit
■
Fan status
The rpms for each fan installed in the appliance are displayed. If you have a single fan unit,
two values are displayed. If you have a redundant fan unit, there are four values.
