Maintaining your security gateway
Making system changes with the System Setup Wizard

In the Network Interfaces panel, from the interface table, select the interface that you want to
modify.

Below the table, make changes to the interface by doing the following:

To configure the security gateway to respond to ping requests, check
Enable external ping
.

To enable DHCP, check
DHCP Client
.
The DHCP Client check box is displayed to the right of the IP address text box only if all of the
following conditions apply:
■
You are modifying the eth1 interface
■
Eth1 is configured as an outside interface
■
High availability and load balancing (HA/LB) is disabled

Click
Next
.

On the Optional Security Gateway Configuration panel, click
Next
.

In the Confirmation panel, review the summary of your configuration.

Click
Finish
.
A message tells you that the security gateway will be rebooted in 30 seconds and asks if you want to
reboot immediately

If you do not want to wait for the reboot to start, click
OK
.
The Symantec Gateway Security 5000 Series v3.0 logon dialog box displays and the security
gateway reboots.
When the reboot has completed, you can log on to the SGMI again.

Modifying system information
When you set up the security gateway for the first time, you configure appliance-specific settings such
as the time zone, date and time, host name, and domain name.
After initial set up, you can change these settings by running the System Setup Wizard and performing
the following tasks on the Machine Settings panel:

Modifying the time zone and date
■
Modifying system information
■
Locking the LCD panel
Interface type
From the drop-down list, select the interface type.
Your choices are Inside, Outside, and Not Used. Before you can proceed, you must have at
least one Outside and one Inside interface.
Name
Type the logical network interface name.
You can also modify the logical network interface name from the network interface
propertied dialog box.
IP address
Edit the IP address.
You must use an IP address that is unique to the subnet to which it connects.
Netmask
Edit the subnet mask address.
