Manual Transaxle Unit Dismounting and
Remounting

Dismounting
1) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2) Remove clutch operating cylinder from transaxle
with hose still attached.
3) Remove gear shift control cables.
4) Remove water intake pipe bolts.
5) Undo wiring harness clamps and connectors.
6) Remove ground cable from transaxle.
7) Remove starting motor referring to “Starting Motor
Dismounting and Remounting in Section 1I”.
8) Remove transaxle fastening bolts.
9) Support engine by using lifting device.
10) Drain transaxle oil.
11) Remove engine under covers.
12) Remove exhaust No.1 pipe and exhaust No.2 pipe
referring to “Exhaust System Components in Section
1K”.
13) For 4WD model, remove propeller shaft No.1
referring to “Propeller Shaft Removal and Installation
in Section 3D”.
14) Remove lower stiffener.
15) For 4WD model, remove clutch housing lower plate.
16) Pull out drive shaft joint and center shaft referring to
“Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and
Installation in Section 3A”.
17) For 2WD model, remove engine rear mounting No.1
bracket with No.2 bracket.
18) For 4WD model, remove suspension frame referring
to “Front Suspension Frame Removal and
Installation in Section 2B”.
19) Remove transaxle to engine bolts and nut.
20) Lower vehicle and support transaxle (2) with
transmission jack.
21) Remove engine left mounting with bracket (1).
22) Remove other attached parts from transaxle, if any.
23) Pull transaxle out so as to disconnect input shaft
from clutch disc and then lower it.
Remounting
For remounting, reverse dismounting procedure noting
the following.
• Tightening bolts and nuts to specified torque referring
to “Manual Transaxle Unit Components”.
• Push in drive shaft joints and center shaft referring to
“Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation
in Section 3A”.
• Set each clamp for wiring securely.
• Fill transaxle with oil as specified.
• Install hook (1) and ground cable (2) at specified
position as shown in figure.
• Connect battery and check function of engine, clutch
and transaxle.

32. Engine rear mounting No.2 bracket bolt (M8)
9. Back up lamp switch connector
21. Clutch housing lower plate bolts
: Tightening torque
10. VSS connector
22. Engine rear mounting (for 4WD model)
11. Transaxle to engine bolts
23. Engine rear mounting to frame nut (for 4WD model)

4. Transaxle left case
