Chapter 3: Maintenance and Component Installation
3.4 Chassis Components
Storage Drives
The S chassis supports twenty-four hot-swap 2.5" storage drives (HDDs or SSDs).
Each node controls six drives.
•
HTR: Six SATA drives
•
HNR: Six NVMe drives
•
HNTR: Four NVMe/SATA and two SATA drives
•
HNC0R: Four NVMe/SAS drives and two SAS drives (SAS3 support via Broadcom 3008)
•
HNC1R: Four NVMe/SAS drives and two SAS drives (SAS3 support via Broadcom 3108)
For M.2 SSD storage, see the next section.
Drive Carriers
Each drive carrier has two LED indicators: an activity indicator and a status indicator. For RAID
configurations using a controller, the meaning of the status indicator is described in the table
below. For OS RAID or non-RAID configurations, some LED indications are not supported,
such as hot spare. For VROC configurations, refer to the VROC appendix in this manual.

Note:
Enterprise level hard disk drives are recommended for use in Supermicro chassis and
servers. For information on recommended HDDs, see the Supermicro website,
