Processor and Heatsink Installation
Follow the procedures in this section to install a processor (CPU) and heatsink to the
motherboard.
Notes:
•
The motherboard should be installed into the chassis first and the processor should
be installed into the CPU socket before you install a CPU heatsink.
•
If you bought a CPU separately, make sure that you use an Intel-certified
multi-directional heatsink only.
•
When receiving a motherboard without a processor pre-installed, make sure that the
plastic CPU socket cap is in place and none of the socket pins are bent; otherwise,
contact your retailer immediately.
•
Refer to the Supermicro website for updates on CPU support.
Installing the Processor(s)
Begin by removing power from the system.
1. Remove the cover plate that protects the CPU#1 socket. Lift the lever on the socket
until it points straight up. With the lever raised, lift open the processor retention
plate.
