Chapter 4: Chassis Setup and Maintenance
4-6 System Fans
Three hot-swap, heavy-duty fans provide cooling from the middle of the chassis,
augmented by two rear exhaust fans. They are usually pre-installed. Procedures
to replace them follow.

Replacing a System Fan
1. If necessary, open the chassis while the power is running to determine which
fan requires changing. Never run the server for an extended period of time with
the chassis open.
2. Remove the failed fan's power cable from the JBOD control board.
3. Press the fan release tab to lift the failed fan from the fan tray and pull it
completely from the chassis.
4. Place the new fan into the vacant space in the fan tray, while making sure the
arrows on the top of the fan (indicating air direction) point in the same direction
as the arrows on the other fans.
5. Reconnect the cable to the JBOD control board and check that the fan is working
properly before replacing the chassis cover.
