2. Roof Installation
For optimal performance, the Sunforce Solar Attic Vent should be positioned facing south (in the northern
hemisphere). Additionally, the solar attic vent should be positioned on an area of your roof not shaded or
otherwise blocked from the sun for extended periods throughout the day. Examples of objects that may
impede performance are trees and chimney stacks. Please note, other heat extraction vents can interfere
with performance when using the thermal switch.
A hole matching the size of the diameter (aprox. 12 inches / 30.48cm) of the extraction vent needs to be cut
into the desired location on the roof. Using a tape measure, measure this diameter and mark out on the
roof. A nail hammered into the shingles and a correctly measured piece of string can give you an accurate
circle of the required diameter.
Caution: Measure carefully prior to cutting, noting the placement of the rafter beams. Do not cut
into the rafter beams of your roof, this could damage the roof’s structural integrity!
After your hole is cut from the roof, lift the surrounding shingles on the high side of the roof, using a flat
bladed tool. This will allow half the steel flashing to be slid underneath. The second half of the steel flashing
(facing down the roof) remains above the shingles, this part is then screwed down to the roof allowing rain
to run-off.
Use polymer roof caulking around the edge of the ventilation tube and exposed flashing to seal the unit in
place and provide added weatherproofing.

When working on a roof extreme care should be taken. Please consult a roofing specialist or
contractor should you feel in anyway unsure of this installation procedure.

installation of the Solar Attic Vent.

This product is covered under a one year limited warranty. Sunforce Products Inc. warrants to the original
purchaser that this product is free from defects in materieals and workmanship for the period of one year
warranty from date of purchase.
