Step Five: Configure Serial Communication Program for Retrieval of
Data from Data Card
Serial communication configuration can be accomplished by ensuring the following criteria are met:
• Match Baud Rates of the Analyzer and the computer (default setting = 19200)
• Set Data Bits on the computer to 8
• Set the Parity on the computer to NONE
• Set the Stop Bits on the computer to 1
• Set the Flow Control on the computer to NONE
For example, using HyperTerminal:
1. Under PORT PROPERTIES , click on the SETTINGS tab.
2. Click on the ASCII Setup button.
3. Click on the box next to "Echo Characters Locally".
4. Click the OK button twice.
Once the setup is complete:
1. Select TRANSFER on the toolbar.
2. Click on CAPTURE TEXT and input a file name to have the data stored in a text file.
3. Click on START .
Data collected over the RS-232 serial port will be transmitted in a comma-delimited format for incorporation
into various standard spreadsheet applications. Table 5 displays the types of data, field positions in which
the data appears in the output, and the output data format.
