When you do checking or ser-
vicing in the engine compart-
ment while the engine is run-
ning
For any maintenance and inspection per-
formed on AWD vehicles which requires a
running engine and all four wheels turn-
ing, jack up all four wheels or use free roll-
ers and safety stands to prevent the vehi-
cle from moving. Never race the engine or
brake suddenly.
For maintenance and inspection on any
AWD AT vehicle of a model other than the
following models which requires a running
engine and the front wheels turning (for
example, when they are jacked up, driven
on rollers, or tested by a brake tester), set
a spare fuse (15A) in the FWD connector
located in the engine compartment to
switch from AWD to FWD.
The above instruction does not apply to:
y
2.0-liter turbo models
y
3.0-liter models
y
Vehicle Dynamics Control system
equipped 2.5-liter models
y
Vehicle Dynamics Control system
equipped 2.0-liter non-turbo models
y
Do not spill engine oil, engine
coolant, brake fluid or any other
fluid on hot engine components.
This may cause a fire.
y
Always remove the key from the
ignition switch. When the ignition
switch is in the “ON” position, the
cooling fan may operate suddenly
even when the engine is stopped.
A running engine can be dangerous.
Keep your fingers, hands, clothing,
hair and tools away from the cooling
fan, belts and any other moving en-
gine parts. Removing rings, watch-
es and ties is advisable.
