NOTE
Never exceed posted speed limits.
WARNING
When shifting down a gear, ensure
that the vehicle is not travelling at a
speed exceeding the Maximum Al-
lowable Speed for the gear which is
about to be selected. Failure to
observe this precaution can lead to
engine over-revving and this in turn
can result in engine damage. In
addition, sudden application of en-
gine brakes when the vehicle is
travelling on a slippery surface can
lead to wheel locking; as a conse-
quence, control of the vehicle may
be lost and the risk of an accident
increased.

Over-revving warning (diesel en-
gine models)
Over-rev warning light
CAUTION
When performing the down shifting
procedure by depressing the clutch
pedal and moving the shift lever into
a lower gear, if the warning system
determines that it is highly likely
that over-revving will occur if the
clutch is engaged (clutch pedal is
released) in that position, a buzzer
will sound and the over-rev warning
light on the combination meter will
flash in yellow. In this case, do not
engage the clutch in that position.
Shift the gear up properly while
keeping the clutch pedal depressed.
Not doing so could result in serious
engine damage.

Maximum allowable speed for 4th gear
The maximum allowable speed for each
gear position is displayed on the speed-
ometer dial. For example in the previous
illustration, after starting your vehicle in 1st
gear, before the speedometer needle
reaches the speed

should shift up to the 2nd gear. Thus the
