9 Troubleshooting
9.1 Operational issues and their solutions
Faults Possible causes Required measures
The clutch does not engage The spur teething ring of the inner body and/or
armature plate is damaged and/or dirty
Clean the spur gearings
Magnetic stray flux due to an excessively large shaft/
bushing diameter beneath the armature plate Reduce the shaft/bushing diameter
to the specified dimension or make it
from non-magnetisable material, see
section 5.3.2.
Magnetic stray flux due to carrier made of
magnetisable material Replace the carrier for one made of
non-magnetisable material, see
section 5.3.2.
Coil voltage too low Check power supply
Coil defect - check coil resistance Replace the coil body
The air gap between the spur gearings is too big Readjust the air gap, see
section 6.3.2.
The clutch will not switch
on or switch off The armature plate jams on the retaining bolts due to
pitch errors of the threaded bores in the carrier Replace the carrier
The armature plate jams in the external teeth of the
carrier Replace components
