3.1 GENERAL
The following sections give a detailed description of the
STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table.

The STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table is a mobile,
electrohydraulically operated surgical table
specifically designed to provide patient positioning
flexibility required for modern surgical care facilities.
These tables feature powered lateral tilt,
Trendelenburg/Reverse Trendelenburg, Zip-Slide
™
movable tabletop and adjustable height functions.
These tables are designed to safely function with
patients not exceeding the maximum patient weight
limit (patient in normal orientation) of:
• 1100 lb (499 kg) without patient posturing or
tabletop slide (except raise/lower).
• 1000 lb (454 kg) with patient posturing (except
tabletop slide).
• 600 lb (272 kg) with full patient posturing (including
tabletop slide).
The STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table is constructed
of aluminum alloy, stainless steel and other high
quality materials and equipped with a large sliding
tabletop providing unrestricted radiological access
without patient reversing.
The STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table is powered by
either internal battery or facility electric power through
use of the patent-pending INTELLIPOWER
®
dual
power system and accepts positioning commands from
three sources:
Important: Battery powered tables should be completely
charged prior to initial operation. Charge batteries as
indicated in S

before proceeding.
NOTE: The hand control automatically deactivates after
30 minutes of nonuse (when unlocked) and 10 hours of
nonuse (when locked). The hand control is reactivated by
depressing ANY button but
STOP .
1. A Primary Hand Control (which includes LCD
Display, Reverse Orientation, FLEX, REFLEX,
SLIDE HEAD, SLIDE FOOT, BACK UP, BACK DN,
KIDNEY UP, KIDNEY DN, FLOOR LOCK [Lock
and Unlock], NORMAL, REVERSE, LEVEL,
TREND, REVERSE TREND, HEIGHT UP, HEIGHT
DN, TILT LEFT, TILT RIGHT, LEG UP, LEG DN,
LEVEL and STOP.
2. A physician-controlled Foot Control (which
includes HEIGHT, TREND and TILT functions).
3. A Backup (Override) Hand Control permits table
operation in the event of primary hand control
malfunction.
NOTE: The Head Section is manually adjustable.
Important: When using the Reverse Orientation touch
pad, note the following:
1) When table is turned OFF, control system stores
orientation status. Before any new positioning is
attempted after turning table back on, ensure table
patient configuration is correct.
2) The STERIS 4085 General Head Section is manually
adjusted and is not affected by Reverse Orientation
touch pad operation.
WARNING – EXPLOSION HAZARD: Table
must not be used in the presence of
flammable anesthetics.
CAUTION – POSSIBLE EQUIPMENT
DAMAGE: Appropriate components of this
surgical table have been tested and found
in compliance with IEC 60601-1-2:2001,
Medical Electrical Equipment - Part 1;
General Requirements for Safety;
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
There is, however, a potential for
electromagnetic or other interference
between this equipment and other devices.
Should user experience interference,
relocate this device or minimize the use of
the affected equipment while this device is
in operation.
WARNING – TRIPPING HAZARD: Route the
power cord to receptacle to minimize
tripping hazards for personnel in the area.
