4 Function and Device Design
4.1 Function
Application range
The digital input output module type 9470/33 is approved for use in gas hazardous areas
in Zone 2, in dust hazardous areas in Zones 21 and 22, and in safe areas.
Mode of operation
The digital input output module is used for connecting up to 16 intrinsically safe digital
signals to the IS1 Remote I/O system.
All channels can be parameterised in pairs as input for connection of passive contacts or
NAMUR proximity switches (EN 60947-5-6) or as output for connection of low power
solenoid valves. Up to 8 inputs can be used as frequency inputs or counters up to 20 kHz,
in the "Rotation direction recognition" and "Forward/backward counter" operating mode
this is up to 4 inputs. The Ex i inputs or outputs are short-circuit proof and galvanically
separated from the system.
