2 Machine Overview

2.5. Machine Operation/Maintenance

The MODEL 4300 BULK BED, has been designed to carry
the product from the field to the storage area to unload the
product.

1. Check all bolts and hinge points to make sure they are
tight and in good condition.

2. Properly ground all Electrically Operated Equipment.

3. Make sure the bed is level.

4. DO NOT plug the Bed in with the power ON.

5. Be sure the switches on the main electrical panel or
panels on the BED are turned to “

OFF

”.

6. Check the voltage label on the main electrical panel to
make sure that it is the same voltage and phase as the rest
of the system.

7. Make sure all electrical panel doors are closed and there
is no one working on the equipment and every on is clear
of the system.

8. Make sure that all of the connectors and plugs on the
machine are attached, and are clear of water and other
materials.

9. Proper belt alignment and tension are key to long belt
life. Belts should be kept in alignment between conveyor
side, alignment should be an even distance between belt
and conveyor side on each side. (See belt alignment proce-
dure)

10. Replace damaged or missing drive shields and safety
labels at start of every season.

11. Remove dirt, deposits and inflammable material from
the machine on a daily basis.

12. Inspect the machine for damage once a week and re-
place defective parts immediately.

13. Take note of and comply with the information regarding
cleaning with high pressure cleaning equipment. (See
cleaning instructions)

14. For lubrication only use a good quality brand

-

name

grease, e.g. Shell Retinaz A EP2 multipurpose grease.

15. Remove dirt from lubrication nipples prior to applying
grease. Wipe away any excess grease escaping from bear-
ings.

16. Oil in gearboxes must be checked every hundred hours
of operation.

17. Oil should be changed when it becomes dirty and/or
contaminated.

18. All bearings are of sealed type and are lubricated by
manufacturer. Bearings will only need to be grease at the
start of season. Over greasing sealed bearings will result in
seal being broken and rapid failure of bearing. If seal is
broken, bearing should be greased daily until replaced.
One pump of grease at start of season is sufficient.

Pump Rotation Verification

The hydraulic pump on Bulk Beds with “Three
Phase” (3ph) motors are directionally dependent and the
pump rotation needs to be set correctly before the Bulk
Bed can be used. This includes all Bulk Beds with the
following voltages: 230v 3ph, 380v 3ph, 415v 3ph, 480v
3ph and 600v 3ph.

The pump and motor are shown below. The pump and
motor are positioned as shown on the left hand side of
the Bulk Bed near the cab end. The top and bottom
doors that enclose the pump and motor are not shown
for visibility purposes. But when the doors are opened it
will look as shown. The correct rotation direction is

“COUNTER CLOCKWISE”

looking from the pump to

the electric motor.

Steps for Determining Correct Rotation Direction

1.Open doors on pump enclosure.

2.

Remove “Orange Bell Housing Cover” from the “Bell
Housing”. With cover removed the coupling that con-
nects the electric motor shaft and the pump shaft to-
gether can be seen.

3.

Connect the electric power to the “Power Supply Box”.
Turn the “Power Supply Switch”

ON

 and then

OFF

quickly.

4.

Have a person looking into the “Bell Housing”  to see if
the shaft is rotating in the correct direction. It should be
turning towards (

“COUNTER CLOCKWISE”

) the per-

son looking into the “Bell Housing”.

Warning”

 Do not

put hand, hands or any other object into “Bell Housing”
to feel the rotation direction. It will be visible to the per-
son looking.

5.

If the direction is correct then the Bulk Bed is ready for
use. Reinstall the “Orange Bell Housing Cover” and
shut the doors on the pump enclosure.

If the direction is incorrect. Then do the following:



Disconnect Power



Have licensed electrician properly phase the source
power supplyto the bulk bed
