SETUP
The setup described below is applicable for GoPro Hero 3-7 cameras, as well
as Garmin Virb Ultra 30, with some minor difference noted throughout.
As with any underwater equipment, it is advisable to test the system prior to
full immersion. Therefore, for first time users, we recommend you skip to Step
9, and install the o-ring and lens and test the Squid in a shallow tub of water
prior to installing the camera. Once you are satisfied that the system is
watertight, and you are familiar with seating the o-ring correctly, you can
proceed with full setup as described below.
For best results, you should ensure your camera is using one of the
recommended memory cards
(

), as a
slow memory card may result in poor performance. Also, ensure your
cameras’s firmware is the latest available. The easiest way to update your
firmware is to connect your GoPro to the GoPro app via WiFi; the app can
then update the firmware automatically.
General Setup
1. Remove any accessories such as LCD screens or Battery Bacpacs from
your camera. Insert a suitable micro SD card. For GoPro cameras,
leave the side port cover off the camera so the USB port is accessible.
GoPro 3/3+/4 USB port covers pull off, Hero 5/6/7 port covers unclip
from the top hinge.
2. To minimise reflections inside the Squid, turn off all LED lights from
the Settings menu of your camera. Housing the camera in the
included black silicone cover (GoPro 3/3+/4 only) will also eliminate
reflections. Hero 5/6/7 and Garmin cameras have a non-reflective
front so do not require the silicone cover.
