O-RING CARE
O-rings compress under pressure to create a strong watertight seal. It is very
important that o-rings are inspected prior to each use to ensure:
o-rings are clean and free of grit, salt, hair or other contaminants;
o-rings are undamaged without any nicks, cuts or wear;
o-rings are seated in the groove of the Squid (not in the threads
for the lens); and
o-rings are suitably lubricated with silicone grease provided.
Should you require more grease, the recommended type is
Molykote 111, manufactured by Dow Corning.
Only apply a very thin layer of silicone to the o-ring. Any excess should be
removed. Install the o-ring in its correct location (Figure 5) fully captured
within the groove, ensuring the o-ring is free of dirt, hair etc. O-rings should
be lubricated prior to each use, or if the unit has been unused for a long
period of time.
Do not leave the o-ring compressed for long periods of time. Remove the o-
ring from its groove using a corner of the supplied plastic card and store it in a
clean ziplock bag between uses.
Do not use anything sharp to remove the o-
ring.
