Trolling Mode
Trolling mode is used to tow the Squid close to the surface of the water,
looking backwards to view surface lures. In this mode, the top stabiliser wing
(Figure 10) should be affixed with the shoulder bolt using the supplied 3/32”
Allen key (note, this is a different size to the 2.5 mm size supplied for the
countersunk bolts). The black rear tail fin is not used when in trolling mode.
FIGURE 10
The Squid video cable is strengthened, but is not suitable as a standalone tow
line for trolling. For this reason, when operating in trolling mode, you will
need to attach the longer tow tether, with one end clipped to the quick link
on the video cable, and the other to hole 4 (closest to the video cable) of the
Squid (Figure 11). You will also need to attach a long tow line to the quick link;
this tethering system ensures you are towing the Squid by the tow line and
not by the video cable.
For a permanent installation and to ease handling, you can secure the tow
line to the video cable every 0.5-1.0 m or so, using electrical tape or similar.
