WARRANTY
The warranty policy for the De
GERM
-inator™ is provided on the
Certificate of Limited Warranty enclosed separately with each unit. For
assistance of any kind, contact the Customer Service Department at
Spectro-UV. Call toll-free at 1-800-274-8888. Give full details of the
difficulty, and include the model and serial numbers of the unit and the
date of purchase.
REPLACING THE UV EMITTER
• Slide off the gold light shield.
• Rotate the emitter 45 degrees,
and lift it out.
• Using a clean cloth, gently
rotate the new emitter into
the sockets at both ends.
Avoid touching the UV
emitter with bare fingers.
• Slide on the gold light shield.
TO PURIFY WATER
To kill most of the water-borne, pathogenic microorganisms in
particulate-free, clear water in an 8-oz (0.24 l) glass, turn on the
De
GERM
-inator, and place it directly on the glass above the water.
Discolored or dirty water should be prefiltered until clear prior to
treatment with the De
GERM
-inator.
Shine the UV light directly into the water for 45 seconds. Remove the
lamp, and agitate the water (such as stirring or mixing with a cover on).
Replace lamp on the glass, and shine the UV light for another
45 seconds. A larger volume of water will require a proportionally longer
time. For peak performance, we recommend that you use fresh
batteries when purifying water.
INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERIES
The lamp will produce sufficient UV light
only
if it is used with fully
charged batteries. Four fresh alkaline AA batteries should be installed
after every 3 hours of battery operation.
• Turn off the lamp before performing any maintenance.
• Turn the screw in the battery housing, and slide open the battery
compartment.
• Insert the batteries in the compartment as shown in the diagram.
• Close the compartment and turn the screw.
• NOTE: Remove the batteries when the lamp is not used for an
extended period.
CARE OR REPLACEMENT OF THE UV EMITTER TUBE
The De
GERM
-inator will function effectively
only
if it is kept clean and
free of dust and dirt. If the UV emitter tube appears dirty, apply any
household glass cleaner to a soft cloth, and wipe it gently through the
light shield. To clean the emitter tube more thoroughly or to replace it,
see diagram
. The emitter tube has a rated life of 5,000 hours, but UV
output is reduced by half after 2,000 hours. For most effective
disinfecting results, we recommend replacing the emitter tube after
1,000 hours of use.
