Appendix E OPC Configuration and Operation
OPC Server
OPC (OLE for Process Control) is an industry standard created with the collaboration
of a number of leading worldwide automation and hardware software suppliers
working in cooperation with Microsoft. The organization that manages this standard is
the OPC Foundation. The Foundation has over 220 members from around the world,
including nearly all of the world's major providers of control systems,
instrumentation, and process control systems.
Based on Microsoft's OLE (Object Linking and Embedding), COM (Component Object
Model) and DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) technologies, OPC consists
of a standard set of interfaces, properties, and methods for use in process-control and
manufacturing-automation applications. The Active X/COM technologies define how
individual software components can interact and share data. OPC provides a common
interface for communicating with diverse process-control devices, regardless of the
controlling software or devices in the process.
The OPC data access components need to be installed on any computer prior to
connecting to the OPC Server. The data access components are available for download
from the OPC Foundation. The IsoAir 310P OPC was tested with version 2.05A of the
data access components.
Adjustments to the DCOM settings will likely be required for your computer to allow it
to read data via OPC. We recommend following the settings set forth in the OPC
Foundations document: “Using OPC via DCOM with Microsoft Windows XP SP2.” This
document is available to download from their website at:
http://www.opcfoundation.org
Some clients also require adding registry settings to the computer to correctly poll for
the IsoAir 310P OPC server. This registry file is available by contacting Software
Support at [email protected].
OPC Server
The IsoAir 310P OPC Server provides data that can be accessed by OPC Clients. The
IsoAir 310P OPC Server was created using tools provided by Wind River.
Basic Setup
The IsoAir 310P OPC Server can be configured from a HyperTerminal connection via a
RS-232 connection or telnet via an ethernet connection.
Once connection to the instrument is made, enter status command "
sta
" to see the
current configuration. The current configuration will display the IP Address, sample
interval, operation mode, etc. To access a list of available functions, use the help
command "
?
".
Select OPC operation by setting the OPC mode selection to 1 in setup interface using
the command "
set mode 1
". The unit will respond with "OPC mode selected," before
rebooting. The status message "Ethernet connection via OPC" will also display.
