Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)
The pacer detection circuit in the 91496 Command Module and
telemetry transmitter is susceptible to electromagnetic interference
generated by some LVAD equipment. The pacer detection circuit is
tuned to recognize pulses generated by standard pacemakers,
where the pulse length and time period range are specified. LVAD
signal characteristics occur at a faster rate but are within the pacer
recognition parameters. The pacer detection LVAD signal appears
as a repetitive series of pace flags. To mitigate this interference,
consider turning pacer detection OFF, as described below.
Command Module (91496)
To turn pacer detection OFF
•
Touch ECG.
•
Touch SETUP.
•
Select PACED / OFF.
Telemetry
Use telemetry transmitter 90347-05 option W, which does not
detect pacemaker activity, when using LVA devices. The 90347-05
option W transmitter permanently disables the pacer detection
function in the transmitter. No pace flags will be present on the
waveform, regardless of the pacer detection setting on the 90478
receiver.

Notes:
•
At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher-frequency range
applies.
•
These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is
affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects, and people.
