When transporting the unoccupied wheelchair in a vehicle, it
should be tied down or strapped in.
Quick-Release Axles for Rear Wheels
(Fig. 5.0)
Removing the rear wheels will keep the wheelchair as compact
as possible.
The rear wheels are equipped with quick-release axles. The
wheels can thus be installed or removed without using tools. To
remove a wheel, simply depress the quick-release button on the
axle (1) and pull it out.
CAUTION!
Hold the quick-release button on the axle depressed when
inserting the axle into the frame to mount the rear wheels.
Release the button to lock the wheel in place. The quick-release
button should snap back to its original position.
To lift or carry the wheelchair (without wheels, footrest and
sideguards), grip the upper frame tube and the backrest tube or
the middle of the seat sling.
4.0 Handling
Folding up
(Fig. 4.0)
First remove the seat cushion from the wheelchair and flip up
the (platform) footplate or the individual footplates. Take hold of
the sling from underneath in the middle and pull upwards, untill
the folding bracket clicks into place, (Fig. 4.0 - 4.1). To fold your
wheelchair until it is as small as possible, e.g., to put into a car,
you can remove the footrests (depending on the model). For this
purpose, open the latch from the outside and swing the footrest
to the side, (Fig. 4.2 - 4.3). Then the footrest only has to be
drawn out of the frame tubing.
Transportability
(Fig. 4.1
).
To move the mobility aid, the folded wheelchair should be lifted
by holding the front part of the cross-brace and the push
handles.
Unfolding
Push the release lever of the folding bracket (Fig. 4.4)
downwards and push both frame halves apart. Then press on
the seat tube (Fig. 4.5). Your wheelchair is then unfolded. Now
snap the seat tubing into position in the seat saddle. This can be
facilitated by slightly tipping your wheelchair to the side, as this
means that the weight is taken off one of the rear wheels. Be
careful not to get your fingers caught in the cross-tube assembly.
Fit the seat cushion.
WARNING!
Risk of finger entrapment.
Getting into your wheelchair on your own
• Push the wheelchair to a wall or a solid piece of furniture
• Apply the brakes
• The user can lower themselves into the wheelchair
• Then position the feet in front of the heel straps (Fig. 4.6).
Getting out of your wheelchair on your own
• Apply the brakes
• With one hand on the wheel or sideguard, the person should
lean forwards slightly, to transfer the body weight to the front
edge of the seat and then push up to an upright position with
both feet firmly on the floor and one foot behind the other
(Fig. 4.7).
