Troubleshooting Sound (Microphone)
My microphone does not work
If you are using an external microphone, check that the microphone is plugged into the microphone jack correctly.
My microphone volume is too high or too low
Proceed as follows to adjust the volume.

Click Start and then Control Panel.
The Control Panel window appears.

Click Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices and then Sounds and Audio Devices.

Click Volume under Sound recording on the Audio tab.

See if the Select check box for Microphone Balance is selected. If not, click the check box.

Move the slider up or down to adjust the volume.

If the volume is still too high or too low, select Advanced Controls from the Options menu.
The Advanced button appears for Microphone Balance.

Click the Advanced button and select/deselect Microphone Boost or +20db Gain under Other Controls to adjust the
volume.
