Chapter 5 Daily Operation
Offline Volume Management
This section describes how to eject a volume in the user area from a library and
then manage it.
When you perform offline management on a volume, data recorded in this
volume becomes not accessible online. However, by adding new media, you can
use this system to manage far more tapes than the number of slots of the
libraries. When data stored in a volume in offline management is accessed, a
data read error occurs. However, when this volume is added in the library again,
data read of the volume becomes possible again.
Note
The number of volumes that can be managed by offline volume management is
500 per library, including volumes in the library.
Setting up offline volume management

From the web administration screen, click
[Setup] and then
[Software Configuration].
The [Software Configuration] screen appears.

From the [Software Configuration] screen, select the [HNF OFM] check
box in [Misc Configuration], and then click the [Apply].
If there is one or more tapes in the EJECTED state, you cannot release this
setting.
Ejecting a volume

From the web administration screen, click
[Maintenance] and then
[Monitor].
The [Monitor] screen appears.

From the [Monitor] screen, check [Online capacity].
Check to see whether the used rate of the tape area is high so that the
volume must be ejected.

If the volume must be ejected, use the web administration screen and click
[Maintenance], and then
[Tape Volume].
Check the state of the volume in the user area.

To eject the volume, click the [Offline Volumes] on the bottom of the
screen.
The [Offline Volumes] screen appears.

Select the library of the volume you want to eject.
If you select [Last Access Time] from [List Volumes By] located on the top
right side of the screen, volumes are displayed in the order of access date,
starting from the oldest.
