Troubleshooting
Be sure to check the following if a problem occurs. If the
problem persists, contact your local Sony representative.
• The unit does not turn on when the 1 (on/standby)
switch is pressed.
t The main power switch on the rear panel of the unit is set to
the
a (off) position.
Set the main power switch to the ? (on) position ( page 23 ,
24 ).
t Make sure that the power cord is properly connected to the
power outlet.
• The buttons on the unit do not function.
Recording, playback, and other operations do not
function properly.
t
Static electricity can have adverse effects on the functioning
of the unit.
Turn off the
1
(on/standby) switch, disconnect the power
cord, and then wait a moment before reconnecting the power
cord and turning on the unit.
• The disc tray does not open when the Z EJECT button
is pressed.
t The disc tray may take a few seconds to open after you
record data on the disc. This is because the unit is adding
certain required information onto the disc. It is not a
malfunction.
• The unit turns on, but images do not appear or are
distorted.
t
Make sure that the cables are properly connected to the input/
output connectors on the rear panel of the unit (
page 23 ).
t
Make sure that the cables are not damaged.
• There is no audio, or the audio is noisy.
t Make sure that the cables are properly connected to the input/
output connectors on the rear panel of the unit (
page 23 ).
t Make sure that the cables are not damaged.
t If the unit is in fast playback or fast reverse playback mode,
press the
B PLAY button ( page 21 ).
• The unit cannot record data.
t
Use media on which data can be recorded.
t
The remaining storage capacity on the media is insufficient.
Replace the media.
t
Use a BD/DVD disc that is compatible with the unit
(
page 30 ).
• The image freezes and audio is cut for brief (about one
second) moments during playback.
t This unit stops playback between titles, and resumes
playback after about one second. It is not a malfunction.
• Data on the disc is damaged.
t
Contact your local Sony representative.
• “WARN.HDD.2” appears on the front panel display.
t Corrupted files exist on the internal HDD. Press and hold the
BACK button for at least 5 seconds to perform recovery on
the internal HDD.
t If the warning is displayed even after performing HDD
recovery, the internal HDD is damaged. Contact your local
Sony representative.
• “WARN.DB1” or “WARN.DB2” appears on the front
panel display.
t
The database is damaged. Press and hold the BACK button
for at least 5 seconds to perform database recovery.
t
If the warning is displayed even after performing database
recovery, the database cannot be recovered. Contact your
local Sony representative.
• Do not turn off the unit while internal HDD or database
recovery is in progress. The recovery process will start
after the unit automatically restarts.
• Internal HDD or database recovery can take up to
1 hour each. If recovery does not complete within
1 hour, the unit will automatically shut down.
