Various components inside the transponder are designed to limit damage due to misconnection of
the external signals. However, some damage to the electronic components may result. Under no
circumstances should mains AC power be applied to the transponder.
3.4.2
Compatibility with SSM Chargers
The current during fast charging is limited by the WSM PSU, not by the WSM charger/comms unit.
It is not recommended that the incorrect charger combination is used. However, if it is, it has been
shown that there are no safety implications, but charging will not be complete.
The Type 7970 and 7973 SSM use a 1300 mAh battery which can be fast charged at 1.3 A. A fast
charge time limit is set to 60 minutes.
If a WSM charger is used to charge a SSM, the current will only be 500 mA and the SSM will cut off
fast charge after 1 hour, so full charge will not be attained if the SSM was more that one third below
full capacity.
If a SSM charger is used to charge a WSM6, the current will be higher than recommended.
Depending on ambient temperature, the charging process may be curtailed early if the pack
temperature rises above limit. Repeated excessive fast charging will affect the capacity of the
battery pack and the number of charge cycles it will support in its lifetime.

Variants
3.5.1
8270-000-11 WSM6
The 8270-000-11 is a special version of the WSM6 which uses a 5-pin Subconn female bulkhead
connector. The performance and behaviour is exactly the same as the 5-pin 8270-000-01 4000m
Directional WSM6.
A male-to-male adaptor cable (part number 8070-053-01) is supplied to permit the standard
charger and accessories to be used.
