OVERVIEW
The SMC Tiger Card™ 10G (SMC10GPCIe-XFP) is a proven 10 gigabit Ethernet server adapter that runs on a high speed PCIe x8 host
bus interface with pluggable XFP modules* (SR or LR). The pluggable feature provides the compatibility to different 10 Gigabit Ethernet
networking expansions, delivering 10GbE performance from 300m (SR) to 10km (LR) distances between ports.
With many advanced features and support for wide range of operating systems, SMC Tiger Card 10G adapter family represents an ideal
solution for interconnects within high bandwidth networking environments. Database clusters, high performance computing (HPC), and video
on-demand are driving complex applications in which creating and transferring huge fi les will benefi t from low latency and high throughput. SAN
environments can leverage iSCSI support, enabling cost effective and scalable network storage solutions. SMC Tiger Card 10G adapters
are also optimized to be used in highly virtualized environments. VNIC® architecture provides the most effi cient way to maximize network
and CPU effi ciency. RSS, MSI-X, and NetQueue support provides multiple queues to reduce I/O bottleneck and work loads are effi ciently
managed across multi-core CPUs. Support for VMware ESX Server 3.5, Microsoft Hyper-V, and XenServer offers one of the widest 10GbE
interconnect solutions for server virtualization.
The SMC10GPCIe-XFP is a half-height card with brackets for half- or full- height, which offers fl exibility for server installation. The SMC
Tiger Card™ 10G Server Adapter family delivers the balance of performance, power and price. This balance is driving the widespread adop-
tion of 10-gigabit Ethernet throughout data centers and enterprise networks world-wide.

KEY FEATURES
Virtual NIC Support (VNIC)
iSCSI support/ acceleration in virtual environments
The core of SMC’s technology. Protected VNIC interfaces can
be instantiated for each running guest operating system or
application, giving it a direct pipeline to the Ethernet network. This
architecture provides the most effi cient way to maximize network
and CPU effi ciency. The SMC Ethernet controller supports up to
4096 VNIC interfaces.
• iSCSI header and data digest CRC provides greater levels of data
integrity without consuming additional CPU cycles.
• Reduced TCO (total cost of ownership) for shared storage and
converged fabrics.
• Reduced CPU utilization, lower networking latency, improved
machine utilization, and easier management.
IP/UDP/TCP checksum offl oad
Transmit rate pacing (per queue)
Calculation and validation for the checksums found in IP, TCP and
UDP headers. This feature saves a signifi cant amount of valuable
CPU cycles.
Provides a mechanism for enforcing bandwidth quotas across all
guest operating systems. Software reprogrammable on-the-fl y to
allow for adjustment as congestion increases on the network.
