1.5.1
Application Controller
The application processor portion of the terminal has its own independent set of modes.
Table 1
Application Controller Operating Modes
Operating Mode
Description
Processing Mode
In its processing mode the Lua services are actively running.
Power Off Mode
In this mode the application processor and modem are both
powered off. All terminal peripherals are off as well.
1.5.2
Satellite Modem
For the most part, the satellite modem operates independently from the application
controller. Consequently, power consumed by the satellite modem must be added
separately to determine a terminal's overall power consumption.
Table 2
Satellite Modem Operating Modes
Operating Mode
Description
Transmit Mode
In transmit mode the modem is transmitting a signal to the gateway.
Receive Mode
In receive mode the modem is attempting or actively listening to the
satellite (listening on the bulletin board channel or on a traffic
channel).
Sleep Mode
This is the time between wake-up intervals. When a terminal is
going to sleep, it stops receiving messages for a wake-up period.
Both the terminal and gateway track the wake-up interval.
Consequently, when a terminal is in sleep it does not miss
messages.
1.5.3
GPS
GPS is a modem peripheral that is either on or off.
