3.1.4
Special weather conditions
In regions subject to high snowfall it is important to ensure that
the snow is promptly removed. In this case and in regions subject
to storms, strong winds, downpours, cyclones and tornadoes, the
system must be positioned on the roof in the most stable way
possible and fastened with additional metal bands.
a
WARNING
In areas subject to these conditions and where hailsto-
nes have a diameter greater than 20 mm, we suggest
stipulating an insurance policy for the solar water he-
ater.
3.1.5
Piping
The path of piping and cables must be agreed between the instal-
ler and the customer, so as to guarantee adequate installation of
the solar system in conformity to the local regulations governing
water and electrical systems.
Make sure that the pipes connecting the tank to the collectors
and the pipes to and from the water heater are insulated so that
they can withstand temperatures ranging between: -30ºC and
120ºC. An anti-UV protection must be used for the insulation.
3.1.6
Anti-freeze liquid
The special heat-transfer liquid used in the closed circuit pro-
tects the system against freezing and the build-up of salt inside
the collector’s pipes. The gap in which the heat-transfer fluid cir-
culates does not communicate with the water storage tank. The
heat-transfer fluid must be mixed with water in the right percen-
tage for protecting the system.
a
WARNING
– The company declines all responsibility for inade-
quate installation and incorrect use of the compo-
nents used to install the solar water heater.
– The use of water or other inappropriate liquid may
void the warranty.
– Once the installation has been completed, the area
where work was carried out must be cleaned and ti-
died. The warranty form must be filled in, signed by
the customer and immediately sent to the company.
The customer must also fill in the checklist provided
by the company.
3.2
Positioning the solar collectors
The system can only be installed on flat roofs and surfaces with
adequate load-bearing capacity. Before proceeding with the in-
stallation, make sure that the roof and/or the building have an
adequate load-bearing capacity in terms of static resistance, in
relation to the maximum loads bearing on the point of installa-
tion.
If the system is installed in an area subject to strong winds and
heavy snowfall, the entire system must be checked in terms of its
static resistance by an expert, such as a specialised engineer. In
some specific cases it may be necessary to reinforce the structu-
res or make them sturdier.

Space requirements for installation
The system must be installed at a distance of at least 1.5 m from
the edges of the roof so that:
– The systems can be accessible for maintenance purposes.
– The system and the fastening elements are not exposed to
strong wind which develops at the ends and along the edges
of the roof.
– Snow is removed.
