5.2 System Configuration
The following section will provide an overview of the steps for configuring the VTL software. For
more detail, refer to the
System Administrator’s Guide
.
1. Launch the VTL Console GUI on a remote PC. Instructions for this are provided
in the
System Administrator’s Guide
.
2. Configure the Virtual Tape Library system for their use, and assign each library to a host
system. Refer to
Chapter 5: VTL Configuration
in the
System Administrator Guide
for
more information.
3. Verify that the customer’s host machine(s) are able to see the virtual storage devices on the
system. The customer may have to either reboot the host machine(s) or run the appropriate
“discover” command in order to see the virtual storage devices on the system.
•
For Linux: Unload/reload the HBA device drivers.
•
For Solaris: Run the
devfsadm
command.
•
For Windows: Run
Scan for Hardware Changes
in the Device Manager.
4. If the customer purchased the Import/Export option, perform the configuration steps
in the
System Administrator Guide
.
5. Create a customer system map detailing the customer's network environment, connections,
etc. Include OS and patch levels of host systems, FC and Ethernet switch layouts, IP
addresses, serial numbers, user ID's, passwords, etc., as available. This will be used as a
troubleshooting tool for service calls in the future.
6. Execute an X-Ray of the system configuration and email it to Level 3 Support.
