The optional monitoring functions (e.g. modem, transformer monitoring, motor monitoring, 
etc.) are implemented in this open-loop control system with the associated input and output 
modules. Customer-specific functions (e.g. communication with a higher-level control system) 
can also be implemented in the open-loop control system. The SIMATIC S7 controls the 
communication between the Control Unit and the excitation. You will find details of this in the 
circuit manual.
