Communication tests for the STS application project
Communication between the crane control and the sway control system can be checked by
issuing a signal and tracing its route.
The signal path starts with the higher-level crane control SIMATIC S7. The signal must reach
the SIMOTION D4x5-2 DP/PN via the I/O variables. From here, the signal is interrogated by the
MCC source files and processed in the appropriate function blocks. The signal is then
forwarded to the DCC and from there to the MCC source files and technology objects. From the
MCC source files, the signal returns to the SIMATIC S7; from the technology object it goes to
the drive object (see the following overview diagram).

Signal flow overview diagram
For better understanding, a signal flow in accordance with the above principle is observed step-
by-step in the following section.
Signal flow
Step 1: Check the execution system and SIMOTION D4x5-2 DP/PN in Run
Before the signal flow is observed, a check must be made whether the programs in the
execution system are assigned to the appropriate tasks because otherwise the programs
cannot be processed. For more information, see Chapter Execution system (Page 134).
To activate the tasks, the SIMOTION D4x5-2 DP/PN must be switched to Run.
Step 2: Input a value at the S7 and check at the I/O variables
The S7 writes a value (500 decimal = 0000.0001.1111.0100 binary) for the DCC_SCTARGETS
block to the first word of the array. The I/O address range of 2092-2103 is reserved for the
DCC_SCTARGETS DCC block.
When this value reaches the SIMOTION D4x5-2 DP/PN, it must be available in the I/O area. To
do this, the "I/O" is selected and the symbol browser observed (see following figure).
