Main constituents of a proper disposal procedure
•
Complete demagnetization of the components that contain permanent magnets
•
Components that are to be recycled should be separated into:
–
Electronics scrap (e.g. encoder electronics, Sensor Modules)
–
Electrical scrap (e.g. motor windings, cables)
–
Scrap iron (e.g. laminated cores)
–
Aluminum
–
Insulating materials
•
No mixing with solvents, cold cleaning agents, or residue of paint, for example
A.3.2.2
Disposing of rotor segments
WARNING
Risk of death and crushing as a result of permanent magnet fields
Severe injury and material damage can result if you do not carefully take into
consideration the safety instructions relating to permanent magnet fields of rotor
segments.
•
Observe the information in Chapter "Danger from strong magnetic fields (Page 31)".
Disposal and demagnetization of rotor segments
Have a specialized disposal company dispose of rotor segments that are equipped with
magnets and which are no longer to be used.
Professional thermal disposal ensures that during and after disposal the rotor segments
do not represent a risk.
After the motor has been disassembled, ensure that the rotor segments are individually
packaged in the undamaged original packaging as specified.
Disposal companies that specialize in demagnetization use special disposal furnaces.
The interior of the disposal furnace is made of non-magnetic material.
The rotor segments are placed inside a rugged, heat-resistant container (such as a
skeleton container) which is made of non-magnetic material, and placed in the furnace.
The rotor segments remain in this container during the complete demagnetization
process. The temperature in the furnace must be at least 300
°
C for at least 30 minutes.
Escaping gases must be collected and decontaminated without damaging the
environment.
