Updating firmware of the readers using the TIA Portal (STEP 7 Basic / 

Professional) 

This section is intended only for S7 users. 
Please note that updating the firmware of the readers is currently possible only for the 

RF200 and RF300 readers. The firmware version to be loaded determines whether the 

update can be performed.  

Requirements 

●

 

The communication module is connected to the controller or PC via Industrial Ethernet or 

PROFINET. 

●

 

Readers are connected to the communication module. 

●

 

The communication module has been separated from running operation. 
Note that performing the update while the application is running can slow down both the 

update and command processing. 

●

 

All user applications are closed. 

●

 

The required update file is stored locally. 

Procedure 

Proceed as follows to perform a firmware update of the reader via STEP 7 Basic / 

Professional (TIA Portal): 
1.

 

Start the TIA Portal. 

2.

 

Open your existing project and change to the project view. 

3.

 

Change to the network view. 

4.

 

Select the affected communication module and switch to the device view. 

5.

 

Establish an online connection. 

6.

 

Right-click on the desired communication module to which the respective reader is 

connected and click on "Online & Diagnostics" in the shortcut menu.
