5.1 

OPC Mode activation 

Terminal mode is factory default setting 

The MODEM  MD720 supports two fundamental operating modes: 

●  Terminal mode 

●  OPC Mode. 

The MODEM  MD720 will be delivered by the factory with activated Terminal Mode. 

Automatic activation by the PLC 

Operating the MODEM  MD720 in OPC Mode combined with S7-200 devices, the 
OPC Mode will be activated by the program building blocks automatically during 
the initialization. 

Manual activation 

If in exceptional cases a manual activation of the OPC Mode is necessary, you will 
find instructions in chapter 6.1 

Switching between Terminal mode and OPC Mode

. 

 

5.2 

Operating requirements in OPC Mode: GPRS subscriber 
contract 

To use the MODEM  MD720 in OPC Mode it is required: 

 

SIM card of a GSM network operator with activated GPRS, 

 

SIM card of a GSM network operator including CSD data service 9600 Bit/s 
and an extra telephone number for data calls (to make Teleservice), 

Availability of a GSM network
