Configuring SNMP
SNMP Parameters for AP
SCALANCE W supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2, and SNMPv3 for reporting purposes only. An
AP cannot use Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to set values in a system.
You can configure the following parameters for an AP:
Table 32- 1 SNMP Parameters for AP
Parameter
Description
Community Strings for SNMPV1 and
SNMPV2
An SNMP community string is a text string that acts as a
password, and is used to authenticate messages sent be-
tween the VC and the SNMP agent.
If you are using SNMPv3 to obtain values from the AP, you can configure the following parameters:
Name
A string representing the name of the user.
Authentication Protocol
An indication of whether messages sent on behalf of this
user can be authenticated, and if so, the type of authentica-
tion protocol used. This can take one of the two values:
•
MD5—HMAC-MD5-96 Digest Authentication Protocol
•
SHA—HMAC-SHA-96 Digest Authentication Protocol
Authentication protocol password
If messages sent on behalf of this user can be authenticated,
a (private) authentication key is used with the authentication
protocol. This is a string password for MD5 or SHA based on
the conditions mentioned above.
Privacy protocol
An indication of whether messages sent on behalf of this
user can be protected from disclosure, and if so, the type of
privacy protocol that is used. This takes the value DES
(CBC-DES Symmetric Encryption).
Privacy protocol password
If messages sent on behalf of this user can be encrypt-
ed/decrypted with DES, the (private) privacy key with the
privacy protocol is used.
Configuring SNMP
This section describes the procedure for configuring SNMPv1, SNMPv2, and SNMPv3
community strings by using the SCALANCE W UI or the CLI.
