Selected meter models support additional hardware and firmware locking to
prevent unauthorized access to revenue-related parameters and settings.
Event logging
Your meter records meter functions, events and changes to meter parameters and
logs them as entries in the event log.
Event logs entries are timestamped and user-related events are associated with
the username that was logged into the meter. Security-related events such as
resets, successful or unsuccessful login attempts, user lockout or meter
configuration changes are also recorded in the event log along with a timestamp
and the username associated with the event. The event log can be used to
monitor system events, assist in confirming security compliance, or assist in
tracking unauthorized intrusion attempts.

Syslog
This feature allows you to push event log information to a centralized syslog
server.
When the event log of a meter is full, new log entries can overwrite existing
entries. By pushing the event log information to a syslog server, older event log
information can be preserved and used as part of an information storage and
retrieval strategy.

Advanced security access using the display
Advanced security is available through the meter’s display.
When advanced security is enabled on your meter, user privileges created
through ION Setup are enforced through the meter’s display. When advanced
security is enabled, changes to meter configuration are associated with the
username that is logged into the meter. The advanced security password used to
access the meter uses an expanded character set, allowing for a more robust
password.
HTTPS
HTTPS uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption to secure the
communications channel and protect exchanged data between the meter and the
web client. When configured to use HTTPS, the meter uses the self-signed
certificate installed on its webserver.
