General Information
The mini star coupler is suitable for the following applications:
•
You can operate SIPROTEC devices centrally via optical interfaces with DIGSI 4, or query them remotely
via DIGSI UART.
•
You can pick up SIPROTEC 3/4/5 devices via serial protocols, for example IEC 60870-5-103,
IEC 60870-5-101, DNP3, or Modbus RTU from a SCADA/RTU.
•
You can transmit time signals such as IRIG B or high-precision time impulses for SIPROTEC devices.
The component can be cascaded so that various topologies can be configured. The following configurations
are possible:
•
Star topology
•
Star topology with master redundancy
•
Ring topology

NOTE
The mini star coupler has an RS232 socket. If you connect a PC/RTU to the RS232 interface via a 7XV5100-4
cable, and the device is configured in compatibility mode in star topology, the optical input for FO1 is auto-
matically disconnected!
This means that you can prevent a data collision due to simultaneous local and remote access.
There are other adjustment options for RS232 interface functionality in extended mode (star topology with
master redundancy) (see
Table 2-2 ).
