Installation of the USB Driver
Backup files for system recovery
To recover the original state of your system after driver installation (user-specific
settings, passwords etc.) you must create backup files of the following files before you
start the drive installation.
▶ All files of the following directories:
─ “C:\smwprog\softc1”
─ “C:\smwprog\softc2”
─ “C:\smwprog\softcn”
▶ The following files:
─ “C:\smwprog\siebmeye.ini”
─ “C:\smwprog\userpass.s56”
Notes for Windows® 7
Consider the following for driver installation under Windows® 7:
As a default in Windows 7, the operating system first scans the Internet for new
drivers, then local directories are scanned for new drivers. This process may take
several minutes.
To avoid long waiting times and install the driver directly from a local directory, you
should deactivate the above described default setting, before you start the driver instal‐
lation.

▶ Activate the following options:
─ No, let me choose what to do.
─ Install driver software from Windows update, if not found on my computer.
Installing the driver
To operate the USB↔SM-NET adapter with the standard PC, you must install a USB
driver. When you connect the USB↔SM-NET adapter to the PC via a USB cable and
the new hardware is identified, Windows opens a wizard for the installation of the USB
driver.
To install the driver, proceed as shown in the following figures.

Activate the option “No, not this time” and click on “Next”.
