Introduction

Mode of Operation
The DME4000 distance measuring sensor is a
compact optical distance sensor. The DME is
mounted in such a way that the transmitted laser
beam hits a reflector. The reflector of the sensor
moves along the laser beam.
The recipient of the DME receives the light re-
flected by the reflector and calculates the dis-
tance between the sensor and reflector by meas-
uring the time between sending the light and
receiving it back.
The measured distance is transmitted to a control
unit or a position control loop via an SSI, RS 422,
DeviceNet, Hiperface, CANopen or PROFIBUS
interface, depending on the sensor model.
Thanks to the fast calculation of measurement
values, the DME4000 is suitable for direct opera-
tion in a closed-loop position control via the SSI
interface, e.g., with a frequency converter.
