Other Compasses
For the very best performance of the SP38 Advanced Autopilot system, Sitex recommends
the use of their own branded compasses– but you certainly may decide to use either a
fluxgate compass or a magnetic compass from another manufacturer. See your Sitex Dealer
or consult the factory for information on interfacing these compasses with the SP38 system.
Rudder Followers
Standard Rotary Rudder Follower and Rudder Linkage

The Sitex SP38 is normally supplied with a Sitex Medium Duty Rotary Rudder Follower.
The Rudder Follower is used to transmit the position of the vessel’s rudder to the SPU. It
should be connected to the part of the steering system that the autopilot controls. Normally, it
would be the vessel’s rudder. However, if the vessel has two-stage steering, where the
autopilot drives a control or servo ram, the Rudder Follower should be mounted to the servo
ram rather than the rudder.

A Heavy Duty Rotary Rudder Follower is available for special applications. Check with your
Sitex Dealer to determine whether this product is suitable for your application. Separate
installation instructions are provided with this Rudder Follower.
