Descaling
∙
Depending on the water quality (lime
content) in your area as well as the
frequency of use, all thermal household
appliances using hot water need
descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits)
on a regular basis to warrant proper
functioning.
∙
Any warranty claim will be null and
void if the appliance malfunctions
because of insuf
fi
cient descaling.
∙
A lengthening of the brewing time and
increased noise during brewing indicate
that descaling of the coffee maker has
become necessary.
∙
An excessive build-up of lime deposits is
very dif
fi
cult to remove, even when strong
descaling agents are used. It may also
cause the brewing system to leak. We
therefore strongly recommend descaling
the appliance after each thirty to forty
brewing cycles. For descaling, a vinegar
solution may be used as follows:
∙
Mix 80 ml of vinegar essence with the
indicated maximum amount of
cold
water.
∙
Pour the descaling solution into the water
container, insert a paper
fi
lter into the
fi
lter holder
without adding any ground
coffee
as described in section
Making
coffee
, and let the appliance run through
one
fi
ltration cycle. Repeat the procedure
if necessary. During descaling, ensure
suf
fi
cient ventilation and do not inhale any
vinegar vapours.
∙
To clean the appliance after descaling, let
it run through 2-3
fi
ltration cycles using
clean water only.
∙
Do not pour descalers down enamel
sinks.
Cleaning and care
∙
Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is
disconnected from the power supply and
has cooled down completely.
∙
To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not
clean the appliance with water and do not
immerse it in water. The appliance may be
cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, using
a mild detergent. Wipe dry afterwards.
∙
Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning
solutions.
∙
To remove the used ground coffee, open
the swing-out
fi
lter and lift out the
fi
lter
insert by its handle. Dispose of the ground
coffee (as a natural substance, it may
be composted). Rinse out the
fi
lter and
replace it, folding down the handle to the
right and locking it. Close the swing-out
fi
lter.
∙
The glass carafe may be cleaned
with warm water after use. Wipe dry
afterwards
∙
Clean the water container with a mild
detergent, rinse it thoroughly and then dry
it inside and out with a lint-free cloth.
∙
Once brewing is complete or has been
interrupted, do not leave any residual
water in the container if the appliance is
not to be used for an extended period.
