ProPhonic 2X-S & 2MAX Earphones

Thank you for your purchase of Sensaphonics custom

earphones, the most comfortable isolating earphones

available. This User Guide covers both the ProPhonic

2X-S and the 2MAX models, as they utilize the same

construction, from their soft silicone earpieces to their

strong yet supple cables. Both models are designed

for high-resolution audio monitoring while providing up

to 37 dB of isolation from ambient noise. The 2MAX is

optimized for use with wireless personal monitor systems,

incorporating a “louder, faster” response characteristic that

is useful in situations where the earphones must share their

power supply with IEM receiver circuitry. Please take a few

minutes to familiarize yourself with the proper usage and

care of your new earphones. Carefully read and follow all

cautions and instructions.

IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Do not use this product while operating motorized vehicles

or heavy machinery, while bicycling or jogging near traffic,

or in any potentially hazardous situation where there is a

need to hear ambient noise.

•   Consult your authorized Sensaphonics audiologist

before use.

•  DO NOT use at excessive volume levels.

•  Avoid dropping or strong impact.

•   DO NOT pull on cord to remove it from the jack, or to

remove earphones from your ears. Always grasp the

earpiece or jack for removal.

•  DO NOT leave the cord where it can be tripped over.

•   DO NOT expose in-ear monitors to temperature

extremes (such as a closed auto in the sun).

•  Keep your earphones away from water and dust.

SOUND LEVELS AND HEARING PROTECTION

We strongly recommend that you learn to monitor at lower
levels. The ProPhonic 2X-S and 2MAX make this possible
by virtually eliminating ambient noise. You’ll be surprised at
the full, rich sound you can get when properly isolated from
unwanted noise!

Noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a function of exposure

time, average noise level and peak level of very loud
sounds. The table below shows recommended daily

exposure limits based on NIOSH and OSHA guidelines.

These numbers predict average risk across the population,
not individual risk. It’s important to realize that some
people are more susceptible to hearing loss than others.

The excess risk of developing NIHL is 8% using the
NIOSH guideline and 25% using OSHA. (Source: NIOSH
Publication #980126)

SAFE EXPOSURE TIME

Sensaphonics strongly recommends that you use the

NIOSH scale as your guide. Keep in mind that these
guidelines are for exposure during the entire day, from

all sources. Also, it’s important to realize that hearing
damage often occurs without common warning signals
like tinnitus. The only sure way to know if you are

experiencing hearing loss is through annual testing.

We strongly recommend that you see your audiologist
regularly!

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

Keeping your earphones clean is essential! Earwax can block the

sound ports, resulting in reduced output or distortion. To clean the
sound ports, utilize the supplied cleaning tool before each use.
Use the tool’s wire loop to dislodge larger pieces, then clear them
away with the brush.

CABLE REPLACEMENT

The earphone cable is field replaceable. It is secured by a small

nylon screw at each earpiece. Replacement cables are available.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The ProPhonic 2X-S and 2MAX are custom molded, full-shell soft
silicone earphones, with each earpiece containing two balanced
armature drivers. The earphones are terminated in a standard

1/8-inch stereo mini-plug.
