Checking the engine oil level
1.
Put the outboard motor in an upright
position.
NOTICE:
If the motor is not
level, the oil level indicated on the dip-
stick may not be accurate.
2.
Start the engine and warm it up for 5–10
minutes.
3.
Stop the engine and leave it off for 5–10
minutes.
4.
Remove the top cowling.
5.
Remove the dipstick
1
and wipe it clean
with a rag.
6.
Insert the dipstick
1
completely for accu-
rate measurement and remove it again.
7.
Check the oil level using the dipstick
1
to make sure the level falls at the center
between the upper level

and the lower
level

. Fill with oil if it is below the lower
level

, or extract to the center level if it
is above the upper level

Checking the engine start button or
switch and engine shut-off switch
1.
Check that the engine starts when the
engine start button is pushed. (Tiller han-
dle model with electric starter)
Check that the engine starts when the
engine start switch is turned to “START.”

Check that the engine stops when the
engine shut-off switch is pushed. (Tiller
handle model)
Check that the engine stops when the
engine start switch is turned to “OFF.”
