Use the following example checklist to help prepare and schedule your
Sidewinder integration tasks. Adequate preparation greatly reduces the
disruption to your production network.
Internet connection and registration considerations
ˆ
Verify that your site has an Internet connection. If you do not
already have a connection, obtaining one may take several weeks.
Your ISP should be able to help you with this task.
ˆ
Verify that your site’s IP address and domain name are registered
with an Internet registration association. Your ISP should be able to
help you with this task.
ˆ
If you plan to use hosted DNS and SMTP services , you can use the
Admin Console to configure them after the initial configuration is
complete. Before you do this, ensure you address the following issues:
• Notify your ISP of the date that your network traffic will start flowing
through the Sidewinder. This task is necessary only if your
company has an existing Internet presence. The ISP must then
change your mail exchanger (MX) and name server records to
point to the appliance’s external IP address.
• Notify ICANN (or equivalent domain registrar) that your appliance
will be an authoritative name server for your domain.
Support staff and materials considerations
ˆ
Schedule experts on your existing network components to be on-
site and/or available during installation.
ˆ
Schedule experts on the Internet services and applications that
will interact with the appliance to be on-site and/or available during
installation.

Locate any manuals or documentation that may be useful if
problems happen to arise.
