Chapter 2: Planning Considerations
Preparing your Quick Start Wizard responses
11
What is your DNS resolver’s IP address?
Primary IP address: ___________________________________________
(Optional) Secondary IP address: ________________________________
Enter the IP address of the preferred primary DNS resolver to handle your
appliance’s DNS requests. You may enter an optional alternate DNS resolver.
This can be a different primary DNS resolver in the other burb (one in the
external burb, another in the internal burb), or an alternative server in the same
burb to query if the DNS server at the first IP address does not respond.
Note:
This option is not available for appliances using DHCP.
What is the IP address of the default route?
Default route IP address: _____________________________________
Note:
If the appliance uses DHCP, the routing information is configured
automatically and will not be entered during the Quick Start Wizard.
Traffic between machines on different networks or subnets requires routing.
That is, each computer must be told where to send traffic it cannot deliver
directly. This traffic is generally sent to a router that allows access to distant
subnets.
A
default route
is a “route of last resort” and defined as the IP address of a
device where packets are forwarded that have no explicit route. A default route
is usually the IP address of a router that forwards packets to your Internet
Service Provider (ISP).
Note:
This option is not available for appliances using DHCP.
Where do you want your internal mail directed?
Internal mail host: _____________________________________
Mail addressed to users on your internal network will be forwarded to an
internal mail host you designate.
