After you install Seagate Backup Exec and your new
tape drive, but
before you try to backup your data, you
should make sure that your computer and operating
system can recognize your new drive. This section
describes how to check that your new tape drive and
software have been installed correctly.

Backup for Windows 95. Seagate Backup for
Windows 3.x will
automatically perform a self-
test and a test backup the first time you run
the program.
Turn on your computer. During boot up, the message
“Windows has found new hardware” should appear.
This indicates that Windows 95 has recognized your
new tape drive.
Click the Start button, point to
Settings, and then click
Control Panel. Double-click on the System icon and
select the Device Manager tab. You should see a
screen like the one at left. Your new tape drive
should be listed under the “Tape drives” category (it
