8 LOW CURRENT DECK
The Low Current Deck Option for the 5000 Series Tester, with matching software,
extends the low-end leakage current measurement range to 100
ρA with 50ρA
resolution. The lower current ranges are attainable by virtue of the measurement
circuitry of the Low Current Deck. This places the measurement circuit as close as
possible to the device being measured, thereby minimizing both leakage and AC
pick-up.
The Low Current Deck also provides programmable soak time to 98 milliseconds,
Kelvin lead continuity testing and integration of the test answer. The “integrate”
mode measures the parameter over a full AC line cycle to reduce the effects of AC
pick-up.
The device under test is plugged into the Low Current Deck panel for manual testing.
A cable to attach the test leads to a handler is optionally available.
The Low Current Deck comes in two cases; the stand-alone case with 50-Pin data
cable and device cable and plug-in case with 50-Pin data cable.
8.1 Installation
Connection of the stand-alone case Low Current Deck is as shown in Figure 8-1.
The plug-in case connects directly to the front panel of the 5000 Series Tester. In
both case, the 50-Pin connector connects from the back panel of 5000 Series Tester
and the Low Current Deck.
NOTE: Substantial force is required to plug the Low Current Deck directly into the
panel of the 5000 Series tester. This assures good connection.
Use the supplied shielded cable to connect the front panel of the 5000 Series Tester
to the back of the Low Current Deck. The length of this cable is significant in the
measurement of low currents.
If the Low Current Deck was not part of your original configuration, or if you want to
reconfigure your system, you must set switch #4 (dipswitch located on the Analog
Board of the 5000 Series Tester). Position switch #4 ON to enable or OFF to disable
the Low Current Deck. Any changes made to the switch setting should also be made
to the “Mainframe Configure” of the PCW software (see Section 6 for more
information).
If connecting to a handler, use a cable set with a maximum length of six feet. This
cable is optionally supplied.
Cut the cable as short as possible
. Even though the
cable is shielded, with the shield grounded (on the tester end only), AC pick-up and
cable charging time is minimized. The most sensitive test leads for low current
For the system to operate properly the hardware
configuration of the system must match the
dipswitch settings on the Analog Board and the
configuration setting in the PCW software!
