Chapter 1: Product Overview
This chapter describes the Telum
TM
GE-QT 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Advance Mezzanine Card
(AdvancedMC® or AMC) Network module. The Telum GE-QT is a 4-port Ethernet AMC network
module also known as a network interface card (NIC). The Telum GE-QT 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet
AdvancedMC NIC (hereafter referred to as the Telum GE-QT) provides high bandwidth and high
port density in a single-wide, full-height module that complies with the Peripheral Component
Interface (PCI) Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG®) AMC specifications. The
Telum GE-QT was designed for optimized implementation in the following chassis/shelves:

Product Overview
The Telum GE-QT contains a x4 PCI Express bus that complies with the AMC.1 specification. The
Telum GE-QT provides a fast, standards-based, cost-effective reliable data pipe with speeds up to
one billion bits per second.
To reduce host CPU utilization, the Ethernet controller on the Telum
GE-QT supports Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) segmentation and checksum off loading.
The Telum GE-QT provides four external RJ-45 ports for connectivity and can also be used on an
AdvancedTCA chassis. All ports are accessible by software. The Telum GE-QT complies with IEEE
802.3a specification to support 10BaseT, 100BaseTX and 1000BaseT modes over Category-5 (or
better) twisted pair (4-wire pairs) cable.
The Telum GE-QT provides media access control (MAC) and physical layers of the Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) protocol mode. It complements upper layer protocols such as TCP and
Internet Protocol (IP), which allows reliable communications services between applications.
