SATELLINE RADIO MODEMS

SATELLINE-3AS(d)

SERIAL PORT SETTINGS

SATELLINE-3AS(d) radio modem consists of two serial ports. Port1 is always RS-232. Port2 can be set

by hardware to be either RS-232 or RS-422/485. Details of changing the hardware settings of port2

are enclosed. The selection between RS-422 and RS-485 is made by external wiring. More

information of these differential interfaces can be found in the Satelline-3AS user's guide.

When Port1 is set active, Port2 is non-active and vice versa. So the both ports can not be used

simultaneously.

The both serial ports are wired to the same 15-pin D-sub connector. Pins 2, 3, 4 and 5 are

multifunctional. The following table shows the functions of the pins for different settings.

• Instructions for changing the setting of the serial port2 from RS-232 to RS-422/485 (or vice versa)

The current setting of the Port2 can be checked in the setup mode. If the setting (written in the square

brackets after the list of the other settings of the port2) is not the one needed, the following hardware

and software modifications are required.

Open the back cover of the Satelline-3AS carefully keeping simultaneously the antenna connector

at its place.

Open the hex screws of the D-connector

Lift carefully the D-connector end of the circuit boards until you have access to the small 10 dip

switch matrix on the modem PCB.

Caution

! 3ASd will require some special care, to avoid a risk of

braking the display module. The metal fixing part of the display at the antenna side has to be

loosened slightly before lifting the PCBs.

Move the switches to the correct positions. Refer to the table below.
