Prior to putting the unit into operation, read the operating instruc-

tions completely and carefully. The stipulations contained therein 

must be respected in any case. Afterwards, the operating instruc-

tions must be stored in a safe place, accessible to every user 

of the equipment. The unit can only be put into operation by a 

trained person (professional operator). Inappropriate use of the 

unit, modification of any kind or combination with non-original 

parts may lead to material damage, serious health hazards for 

the user, third persons or animals or even death. SATA cannot 

be held responsible for damages caused by disregarding the 

stipulations laid out in the operating instructions. The applicable 

safety, workplace and worker health protection regulations of 

the respective country or area/district in which the system is 

used must be respected by all means (e.g. the German Rules 

for the Prevention of Accidents BGR 500 (BGV D25) and BGV 

D24 issued by the Central Office of the Professional Trade 

Associations, etc.).

4. Functional Description

The SATA vario top spray pump is designed for the application 

of paints, lacquers, primers and dispersions or similar materials 

with viscosities of up to 130 seconds at recommended spraying 

temperature, measured in a 4 mm viscosity cup. Each version of 

the SATA vario top spray consists of a double diaphragm pump 

with pressure regulation unit, material fine pressure regulator 

and material outlet tap. According to the working principle of a 

double diaphragm pump, two separate air chambers are charged 

with compressed air in alternating order ensuring that fresh coat-

ing material is transported into one ofthe chambers, while the 

spray gun is supplied from the other chamber in a pulsation-free 

process. To ensure enhanced life time, the pump must be run on 

filtered, clean and dry compressed air, e.g. supplied from a SATA 

filter 444. The material suction tube is equipped with a sieve to 

protect the valve seats, valve balls and diaphragms. Due to an 

integrated silencer in the pump control unit, no additional silencer 

is required. The pump is backpressure actuated, i.e. further coat-

ing material is only supplied when pulling the gun trigger releas-

ing material from the gun. For this reason on the other hand,
